| Keith Benjamin has a particularly nice medium-range game off the bounce and makes jumpers. He has a nice variety of dunks and also earned the reputation of a fierce defender while at Mt. Vernon HS, the same high school that UConn's Ben Gordon attended. Keith originally committed to Villanova, but re-opened after Derrick Snowden tore his ACL, and committed to Pittsburgh within a week of opening it back up. St. John's offered him during his junior season. He was the first oral commitment of Jamie Dixon's first year as head coach of the Panthers.
At Mt. Vernon HS, Benjamin averaged 18 points, 4.7 rebounds and 3.4 assists over his junior season, helping his team to a 26-1 record. He was 44 percent average from 3-point range. Mount Vernon advanced to New York’s Class A state final and Keith earned a Class A All-Tournament selection. HoopScoopsonline rated him 57th nationally and Athlon rated him the 19th shooting guard. |
