Defending AAAAA champ Kingsland, Camden County re-entered the Top 25 after shutting down Lilburn, Parkview, 12-10, in the Corky Kell Classic at the Georgia Dome. The Wildcats finished last season ranked No. 6 with a defense that allowed only 47 points in 15 games. Meanwhile, defending AAA champ LaGrange knocked then-No. 13 Newnan from the Poll with a 35-7 blowout that catapulted the Grangers into the Southeast Top 10. There were historic season-openers for a pair of former Prep Poll champion programs. Valdosta, Ga., defeated Snellville, Shiloh, 28-7, in the first game played at newly renovated Bazemore-Hyder Stadium. The Wildcats finished No. 1 in the final 1992 National Prep Poll and are the nation's all-time winningest team at 814-169-34. 1994 Prep Poll titlist Indianapolis, Ben Davis opened the Tom Allen coaching era by beating Cathedral, 19-0. Allen replaced Dick Dullaghan, who retired after winning 213 games and seven state titles in 21 years at the school. Lexington, Ky., Catholic overcame a 21-point second-half deficit to upset five-time defending AAA state champ Danville, Boyle County, 43-42, at the St. Joseph Hospital Bluegrass Bowl in Lexington.
