Westwood DT Picks UCF

Demetris Anderson

The University of Central Florida picked up their 14th verbal on Tuesday night when 3-star defensive tackle Demetris Anderson committed. The 6-2, 270 pound star from Fort Pierce Westwood becomes the 3rd DT committed and 11th from inside the state. SunStateFootball.com caught up with Anderson to discuss the commitment.

Demetris Anderson was holding offers from UCF, Wisconsin and Illinois, but decided to end the process,

"I committed to UCF tonight. I just felt like it was the best place for me. It is close to home and I like to be by my family. Now they can watch me play all the time."

Anderson had seen his stock rise throughout the Spring and Summmer including a standout performance at UCF's camp,

"I had a great camp at UCF, I got to work with the coaches and show them what I can do. I have been there one other time and I just feel real comfortable with my decision."

The Badger's and Illini were making a run at the star DT,

"Those are awesome schools and I was impressed with the coaches and everything about them. In the beginning I thought I could go far to school, but I decided it was better to stay close to home."

Anderson is unsure of his official visit plans,

"I don't really know, I plan on going to UCF as much as possible for games and things like that."

Westwood has been making a steady climb and seem poised for a big 2010 season,

"We have been working hard, we have a lot of talent on this team and we expect to do great things. Maybe win a state title. Travares Copeland, Everette Jackson, Adrian Cox, and Wonderful Monds, these are great players and we have more."

In the Fort Pierce area Westwood has a few rivals that Anderson is looking forward to playing,

"Central(Fort Pierce), Treasure Coast, and Merritt Island. We want to win all our games, but those three stand out."

Athletic defensive tackles are hard to find and Anderson is one of the best of the state. This is another solid pick-up for UCF as they appear to be building another standout class.

Anderson is rated 3-stars and the #55 DT in the nation by Scout.com. He is expected to be fully qualified. Stay tuned to SunStateFootball.com for the latest high school news and recruiting.
