ABOUT THE GAME:
This is a terrific match-up of North vs. South in the 6A classification. Both teams have the highest expectations entering this season. It is rare to get a game in Week 1 that could be the final game of the year in mid-December.
Offensively there is a ton of play-making talent on both teams. Central clearly has the advantage at QB with the ultra talented, experienced Jeffrey Godfrey. However, Mainland boats a potentially powerful running attack behind the game-breaker Marlin Lane. The WR's are simply outstanding: O.J. Ross and Chevin Davis for Mainland, Josh Reese, Charles Gaines, and Derrick Knowles for Central. We will know a lot more about the OL's after his one.
The Rockets struggled a little on defense in 2008, but there is simply too much talent for that to happen again. The LB's are the best unit in the state and the deepest. Mainland CB Ricardo Allen leads a talented secondary that will be tested on Friday night.
