SunStateFootball Take: Jared Haggins

Jared Haggins became FSU's 9th commit of the 2010 class and third this week. The Lakeland product is a nephew to FSU's DL Coach Odell Haggins.

ABOUT THE PLAYER: Haggins is a QB in Lakeland's offense and has made giant strides there over the last year, to the point he is certainly BCS calibur. It is his size, speed, and play-making ability that brings him to FSU as an athlete. It appears that his first look will be at WR, but he could also get a look at S. It is not a coincidence that Willie Downs was recruited for the same spots and did not qualify and finds himself at JUCO. While Haggins is not quite the athlete that Downs is, he might be a better pure football player and comes in with high character. Lakeland is the top program in one of the most fertile counties in Florida and it is a positive sign going forward for the Noles. We look for Haggins to need a little time making the adjustment to a new position, but to find his way into the starting line-up down the road.

SEMINOLE IMPACT: Haggins is the second WR commit(joining DeJoshua Johnson) of the 2010 class and comes in on the heels of two big 2009 commits---Willie Haulstead and Rodney Smith. FSU is expected to add Kenny Shaw and Christian Green down the road, and this group has size, speed, and elite play-making ability. FSU has upgraded their WR core considerably over the last two classes, furthermore Jimbo Fisher has gotten the type of versatility he covets. Should Haggins play defense, he will be joining a secondary that has added Greg Reid, Xavier Rhodes, Gerald Demps, Justin Bright, Merril Noel, and Terrence Brooks. The Noles are also in good shape with Lamarcus Joyner and Terrence Mitchell.

Bottom line, after a few lean years, the Noles are back on track on the recruiting trail.
