The Dolphins Academy 7on7 was played today at Central Park in Plantation. The Event showcased some of South Florida's top high school skill position talent. Teams representing Booker T. Washington, Miramar, Boyd Anderson, Ely, and Columbus and over 25 others took part in a round robin format followed by a single elimination tournament.

The tournament was delayed until a later date when lightning rolled in at approximately 4:45. Two teams had already earned a spot in the semi-finals: Glades Central and Boyd Anderson. Two quarterfinal games were still in progress: Jupiter Christian was leading Edison and Belen was ahead of Jackson.

Glades Central was lighting up the scoreboard all day behind QB L.J. Thomas and play-makers Greg Dent, Kelvin Benjamin, Antwon Chisolm, Travis Bell, and Demetrius Evans. Thomas's powerful arm and sweet deep ball are outstanding qualities well suited to 7on7. The defense was lights out much of the day.

Boyd Anderson's Steven Green had a great day consistently getting open and making plays. A tough defense was led by Demar Dorsey, Cliff Coleman, Steven Clark, Harmon Brown and Brandon Butler. Boyd Anderson has a dizzying array of speed and talent.

Marshyl Rothman quarterbacked Jupiter Christian into position to get into the semi-finals. After leading Team Palm Beach to a perfect 9-0 record against the best players in the state in Tampa, he will try to add another feather in his cap. Westin Pedersen, Wes Wallace, and Ryan Powers were big contributors for the Eagles. Edison has proven to be a tough out in events like this and they were only down 4 at the half when the game was stopped.

Jackson and Belen were locked in a tight game that will start with a 4th and goal at the 10 for Belen. Belen really worked the short to intermediate routes to their advantage all day. Pablo Alvarez's size/speed ratio should be very intriguing for college recruiters.

Three Players who Impressed:

1. Ivan McCartney: 'Sticks' is an elite weapon who is effortless and has game speed. He flat gets open and has tremendous hands.

2. Corey Lemonier: The 6'4, 225 pound DE showed the athleticism that makes him such a special package. He can be as good as he wants to be.

3. Greg Dent: The WR/CB made a ton of plays today. He has great hands and looks like a natural WR, however he played mostly defense as a junior at Glades Central. On that side of the ball he had at least 8 picks on the day.
