2010 Florida CB Prospects to Watch

The Sunshine State is absolutely loaded at CB for 2010. Big-time potential at the top and it is as deep as it has ever been. Speed is in abundance across the board. At this early time, this was clearly the hardest position to try to break down and 'rank'. Here is a list of 16 prospects who should have recruiters thrilled to come to Florida looking for CB help.

CB- Lamarcus Joyner, Miami Columbus, 5'9, 165

*2nd Team All-State for 6A. First Team All County by the Miami Herald. Two way star, he had 112 tackles with four sacks on defense. Offensively he had 472 yards receiving with seven touchdowns. Big time play-maker who has a natural understanding of the game. Big hitter. Plays and looks bigger than his measurables. Quick hips and make up speed are elite attributes.

CB- Nickell Robey, Frostproof, 5'8, 160

*First Team All-State for 2B. Robey is one of the best athletes in the state. Undersized, but he makes up for it with some of the best jets in this class. Shifty in space and with great change of direction, he projects to slot receiver or corner. Elite athleticism negates the less than ideal size. Timed at 4.35 in the 40.

CB- Greg Dent, Glades Central, 6'0, 180

*First Team All County by the Sun-Sentinel on defense. Capable of playing offense or defense. Physical corner who can run and hit. Tough player, good size for DB, likes contact.

CB- Derek Owens, Jacksonville Andrew Jackson, 5'11, 180

*3rd Team All-State for 3A. First Team All-First Coast by the Florida Times-Union(on defense), Owens registered six interceptions and scored five touchdowns. Owens is a great athlete who is just a play-maker. A ball-hawk with solid wheels and a high game IQ. Plays both ways, but projects to CB.

CB- James Louis, Atlantic, 5'11, 175

*3rd Team All-State for 5A. First Team All County by the Palm Beach Post at wide receiver. First Team All County wide receiver by the Sun-Sentinel. Louis caught 43 passes for 846 yards and eight touchdowns. Elusive and quick, he projects to CB where his size becomes a bonus. Could excel on special teams as a returner.

CB- Cody Riggs, St Thomas, 5'10, 170

*First Team All-State for 5A. First Team All County by the Sun-Sentinel. The son of NFL Legend Gerald Riggs. Riggs had eight interceptions and 20 pass breakups as a junior. Has a nose for the ball and the smooth hips that project well to the next level. Does not get beat and always seems to be right where he is supposed to be.

CB- Lo Wood, Apopka, 5'11, 170

*Wood has been making noise for two years. He is a pure cover corner with great intangibles across the board. An outstanding and complete athletic package. Has speed to run with faster WR's and physicality to match-up at line of scrimmage. Skilled corner who should be ready to play early. Timed at 4.51 in the 40.

CB- Jaylen Watkins, Cape Coral, 6'1, 170*2nd Team All-State for 5A. First Team All-Area by the News-Press. Registered 71 tackles, three interceptions, and had one fumble recovery. He returned two kickoffs for touchdowns. Watkins played out of position on offense at QB. He passed for 419 yards and ran for 329 yards. Had 28 catches for 328 yards as a sophomore. Had seven interceptions as a sophomore. He projects to CB/S where his nice height and make-up speed project well. Timed at 4.44.

CB- Rashad Knight, Jacksonville Trinity Christian, 5'11, 180

*Honorable Mention All-State for 2B. Another solid DB prospect from the Jacksonville area. Knight could project to CB or S. Physical player who plays smaller competition. Makes plays on both sides of the ball. Ran a 4.42 at national combine last year. Has played both running back, WR, and defensive back.

CB- Ravonne Carter, Hialeah, 5'11, 170

*Good height cover corner with great skill. Hialeah is starting to assemble some talent and he is a big part of that (Lemonier, Smith). Can mirror wide receivers with quick hips and athleticism.

CB- Richard Leonard, Killian, 5'8, 160 *Second Team All County by the Miami Herald. Tough, physical player who plays much bigger than his size. Rare corner who can deliver the knockout blow. Can turn and run with faster wide receivers. Height is an issue.

CB- Tony Grimes, Hollywood Hills, 6'0, 170

*Honorable mention All County by the Miami Herald and Sun-Sentinel. Physical cover corner with solid measurables. Likes to hit. Player who should rise up the rankings from here with a solid summer.

CB- Marquel Wade, Andrew Jackson, 5'11, 180

*Third Team All First Coast by Jacksonville News. Plays WR and DB, but might have higher ceiling at DB. Big time play-maker who got the ball a number of ways: receiving, rushing, and returns. Stand out basketball player as well. Great straight line speed. Team mate of Owens(listed above).

CB- Robert Clark, Dwyer, 5'10, 165

*2nd Team All-State for 4A. First Team All County by the Palm Beach Post and Sun-Sentinel. Clark is a lock-down corner with instincts and tremendous ball skills. Very fast. Plays on the loaded Dwyer defense with Matt Elam and Gerald Christian.

CB- Cornelius Whitehead, Mt Dora Bible, 6'1, 175

*Ran a 4.5 at UnderArmour combine. Great athlete who plays for small school. A do it all type whose frame, natural athletic tools, and speed will catch the attention of recruiters. Will need to have a solid summer against top competition.
