JACKSONVILLE – The Lakeland Dreadnaughts (5A) maintained their hold on the top spot of the Beef 'O' Brady's Top 25, picking up all fifteen first place votes to remain #1 in Florida's only All-classification football poll. St. Thomas Aquinas (5A), which lost last year's 5A title game to Lakeland, moved up to #2 after the Bolles School (2A) of Jacksonville was knocked off by #13 Jacksonville Raines (3A) 34-21. Bolles was #2 and fell to #15 following the first loss in the regular season since 2002. Miami Washington (4A) moved to third followed by cross-town rival Miami Central (6A) at fourth. Hillsborough (Tampa - 4A), climbed to #5 - its highest ranking since a #7 ranking in the Top 25 just before losing to Carol City in the 6A title game of 1996. There was quite a bit of shake-up in the Top 25 as four teams lost in the rankings - including two clashes of ranked teams facing each other. Edgewater (Orlando, 6A) moved up one spot to #6, followed by Madison County (2A)and defending 4A and overall champion Armwood (Seffner). Glades Central (3A), fresh off a 33-6 shellacking of Dillard (Fort Lauderdale) moved up four spots to #9, followed by idle East Ridge (6A) at #10. St. Augustine moved up three spots to #11 after shutting down rival Nease (then ranked #25) 20-14. South Dade (Homestead, 6A) continues to move up - jumping three spots to #12. Making the biggest jump - and maybe rightfully so - was Raines. The Vikings improved to 7-0 and moved from #24 to #13 after their road win over Bolles. Trinity Catholic (Ocala, 2B) which has a 28-quarter shut-out streak going (just eight off the unofficial state record) is #14 followed by Bolles. Entering the poll for the first time is Miami Columbus (6A) after the Explorers 28-21 win over then-#11 ranked Miami Northwestern. St. Augustine Nease (4A, 4-2) fell out of the Top 25 after one week back in the poll. The Beef 'O' Brady's Top 25 is voted on by sports writers and sports broadcasters that cover high school football. It is distributed by Youth Sports Marketing LLC of Jacksonville.
