FEATS OF THE WEEK: The Prep Poll is in a New York state of mind this week. Four of the Top 5 teams hail from the Empire State, led by new No. 1 Manhasset, St. Mary's. The Gaels are the third different team to hold the top spot this season. The teams ranked Nos. 2, 3, and 5 are New York heavyweights Niagara Falls; Queens, Christ the King; and New York, Rice. The quartet has combined to defeat 19 out-of-state opponents and five Top 25 teams.
Bob Farrell of No. 18 West Orange, Seton Hall Prep became just the 10th New Jersey coach to win 600 games in an 82-48 rout of Mendham, West Morris. Farrell is 600-144 in 28 seasons. Senior guard Andrew Pusar notched his 1,000th career point on the same night .
Ocala, Fla., Vanguard coach Jim Haley also picked up his 600th win, although he wasn't around to see it. Haley (600-353 in 32 seasons) missed the Knights' 55-48 win over Belleview because of the flu.
Center Jason Bennett of No. 9 Jacksonville, Fla., Arlington Country Day had a triple-double in a 75-50 defeat of Jacksonville, University Christian. The 7-foot-3 junior scored 20 points with 16 blocked shots and 14 rebounds.
