GAINESVILLE – All season long, people have doubted Jacksonville Bolles' football team, claiming the Bulldogs didn't play anyone.

There isn't a person saying that anymore. Behind the passing of senior Riley Skinner, who threw for 356 yards and 4 TD, head coach Corky Rogers and his team captured a record seventh state title in dominating fashion, 42-21, over Tampa Jefferson.

The 3A title, which was the sixth for Rogers, who replaced Bill Borg in 1989, avenged last year's heart-wrenching setback to Miami's Monsignor Pace.

"I cannot say enough about the way these young men battled all year," said Rogers. "Riley went out an led the offense, and our defense came up with numerous big plays."

The Dragons got on the board first on the opening drive when Suber ran it in from the 2 with 9:48 left. Tito Zumbado's point after made it 7-0.

The Bulldogs came right back when Max Higgs scored from the 8 at the 6:12 mark. The point after by Wayne Ferguson was missed and Jefferson held on to a 7-6 advantage.

Shaun Chappas gave the Bulldogs a lead with 1:13 left in the first quarter on a 24-yard reception from Skinner. The two-point conversion from Skinner to junior tight end Colin Peek made it 14-7.

The Bulldogs extended their lead to 21-7 when Rocky Ross took a Skinner pass from 43 yards out with 11:05 left in the first half.

The Bolles School continued to put it on the Dragons when Higgs bolted 67 yards with 5:28 left before the half and a 28-7 advantage.

When Skinner found John Philpot from 35-yards out with 1:17 left in the half, it was 35-7, a halftime lead that was too much for the Dragons to rebound from.

It was Skinner once again that gave the Bulldogs a boost when he found Daniel Zvara from 44 yards out with 9:23 left in the third quarter for a 42-7 advantage.
The Dragons then began to get things together in the fourth quarter as Suber scored his second touchdown of the game, from the 5, with 4:08, and then junior Miles Anderson brought his team to within 42-21 on a 14-yard run with :29 seconds left.
