FLORIDAKIDS.us CLASS OF 2005 RECRUITING EVALUATION:

While you can find out just so much about watching film on an athlete or talking to him on the phone, there is a major advantage to seeing the athlete live. I have been fortunate to see more high school football players in person in the state of Florida than any other source.

What I will do is use my 30 plus years of evaluating talent on the football field to give up a complete opinion on the top football players in the Class of 2005.

I hope you enjoy this rare look into the football players in the state from a firsthand:

PLAYER:Darryl Sharpton
SCHOOL: Coral Gables
POSITION: LB
HEIGHT: 6-1
WEIGHT: 195
www.floridakids.us PRE-SEASON RATING:
83.
THE SCOOP ON THIS FLORIDA KID: Must admit that when I first saw him play a year ago, it was at a time when I was at the game watching two of the players he was competing against, and his wide receiver. It wasn't until the second half when I started to pay attention to him, and my eyes rarely left him as I followed up each play to see what kind of finisher he was.
EVALUATION: "While he reminds Mike Bakas of TheInsiders.com of Fort Lauderdale Dillard standout Elijah Hodge, my first instincts when watching him play last season was more of a strong safety in a linebacker body. He supported run very well and used speed and quickness to make plays, but he appeared to be back on his heels on passing downs.
The true measure of his ability as a linebacker came when I watched him chase down two plays from behind. He used his 4.66 speed and athletic ability to come all the way across the field to follow up and make a play. He has great instincts and a motor that is always on."
THE INSIDE STORY: He came all the way up to Gainesville for the MSL Combine this year because he couldn't make the one at the University of Miami – 10 minutes from his home. It was there where I also had the chance to see his ability to play the game and not just test well.
