FLORIDAKIDS.us CLASS OF 2005 RECRUITING EVALUATION:

While you can find out just so much about watching film on an athlete or talking to him on the phone, there is a major advantage to seeing the athlete live. I have been fortunate to see more high school football players in person in the state of Florida than any other source.

In these Recruiting Briefs, I will try and give you some quick points about the athlete. If you should need a more extensive evaluation, please feel free to e-mail me at FloridaKids1@hotmail.com.

I hope you enjoy this rare look into the football players in the state from a firsthand:

PLAYER:Matt Grothe.
SCHOOL: Lakeland Lake Gibson
POSITION: QB
HEIGHT: 6-1
WEIGHT: 190
www.floridakids.us PRE-SPRING RATING: 69

THE SCOOP ON THIS FLORIDA KID: Please tell me what happened when we last left this talented quarterback who led his team to the 4A state title game, and now, when "recruiting gurus" are hardly mentioning his name? Amazing to think that some people have a clue.
EVALUATION: "This is still one of the state's top five quarterbacks who can throw short, medium and long passes with plenty of touch and accuracy. He runs (4.59) well, sets up with poise and knows exactly how to motivate and move an offense.
While I hear some say that he will make a good safety, I must laugh at that comment. This is a young man who was groomed to play this position, and believe me, he will for a long time. He has too much going for him to be moved to a position where he hasn't had the training."
THE INSIDE STORY: Matt is a classic example of always having to prove himself. Technique wise, he is far ahead of most passers at this level, and I believe he proved that a year ago when he went head-to-head with Xavier Lee, Cornelius Ingram and Drew Weatherford at the Gainesville Nike Camp!
