National Prep Football Poll - Week 12

This week, Miami Northwestern, Palm Bay, Miami carol City and Daytona Beach Mainland are recognized as being among the elite teams in the nation.

The National Prep Football Poll is compiled by high school sports experts Jamie DeMoney and Jeremy Plowman and a panel of sportswriters. The national Top 25 and regional Top 10's follow with won-loss-tie records:

. 1. Concord, Calif., De La Salle (8-0-0), five-time National Prep Poll titlist

2. Tulsa, Okla., Union (9-0-0), coach's son DE Adam Blankenship a key in dominant defense

3. Charlotte, N.C., Independence (11-0-0), outscored last four foes by combined 221-7

4. Ramsey, N.J., Don Bosco (7-0-0), whipped state-No. 2 Montvale, St. Joseph, 63-17

5. Warren, Ohio, Warren G. Harding (11-0-0), seeks first state crown since 1990

6. Miami, Northwestern (9-0-0), rallied from 14 down to defeat Miami Central, 23-21

7. Mission Viejo, Calif. (8-0-0), two-time defending Division II CIF-SS champ

8. Galena Park, Texas, North Shore (9-0-0), routed opponents by a combined 445-42 this year

9. Duncan, S.C., Byrnes (10-0-0), clinched second straight region title

10. Lansdale, Pa., North Penn (10-0-0), begins defense of district title this week

11. Ennis, Texas (9-0-0), led by Texas Tech recruit QB Graham Harrell

12. Melbourne, Fla., Palm Bay (9-0-0), struggled to beat winless Melbourne, Eau Gallie, 28-7

FEATS OF THE WEEK: An era of success ended in Colorado when Alamosa was shut out for the first time since the 1985 season. A 24-0 loss to Fountain-Fort Carson ended a state-best 216-game scoring streak for the Mean Moose. The longest current scoring streak in the nation belongs to Austin, Texas, Westlake at 322 dating back to 1978.

Running back Jason Gwaltney of North Babylon, N.Y. scored five touchdowns and rushed for 311 yards on 29 carries in a 48-13 win over Northport. Gwaltney, only a junior, already has a Long Island-best 79 touchdowns for his career.

Adam DiMichele of McKees Rocks, Pa., Sto-Rox became the all-time passing leader in Western Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic League history during a 42-30 Class A playoff victory over Pittsburgh, Avonworth. DiMichele, a senior, has 6,163 passing yards for his career.

Running back Aaron Kirchhoff scored six touchdowns to lead Barrington, Ill., to a 42-17 win over Wheaton North in an opening round Class 8A playoff game. The senior had five rushing TDs on only12 carries and also caught a pass for another score.
