FIU commitment Troy McCollum was shocked FIU fired Mario Cristobal.

To say Troy McCollum (North Miami, Fla.) was taken by surprise over Florida International's dismissal of head coach Mario Cristobal is the understatement of the day. McCollum was stunned.

"I am very shocked and have been just speechless today," McCollum said. "I talked with the DB coach and he honestly didn't know the reasoning behind the firing of coach Cristobal. He was out on a recruiting trip when he heard the news."

McCollum, a 6-foot-1 and 70-pound cornerback recruit, says he still is committed to FIU but will keep his options open over the coming days and weeks.

"Yeah, I am still committed," McCollum said. "I will make official visits to Hawaii, Louisville and Indiana all in January. I am also talking with Utah State and TCU. I have to keep my options open just to make sure."

McCollum had an in-home visit with Indiana yesterday and he's expecting TCU and Louisville sometime next week.

McCollum finished the season with 34 tackles, eight pass break ups, and one interception.
