Class of 2013 recruit Joel Embiid has announced Tuesday morning that he is headed to the University of Kansas to play for Bill Self and the Jayhawks.
Embiid said along that he wanted to come to his decision and move on to focus on this basketball season, as well as continuing to improve as a student and a basketball player.
He announced Kansas, Florida and Texas as his three finalists last week and that he would be making a decision this week. Kansas emerged as frontrunner after Embiid’s visit to Lawrence for Late Night in the Phog in mid October.
Embiid’s high school Justin Harden said a few weeks ago that Joel was most impressed by Bill Self and Norm Roberts, who led the recruitment.
Joel’s visit to Lawrence, jut wasn’t highlighted by the hoopla surrounding Late Night. The two things that stood out to him was the atmosphere at KU, as well as the basketball.
The visit gave him the chance to visit practice and talk in specifics about the Jayhawks system and how he would fit in it. In the end, he determined that he would not only fit perfectly in Bill Self’s system, but would grow tremendously in the Kansas program.
Embiid adds to an already incredible class that the Jayhawks have put together for 2013.
