Like everyone else on the University of Kentucky commitment list Jalen Battle (Ft. Lauderdale, Fla./University School) will take a wait and see approach. He pledged to the Wildcats back in July and still considers himself a commitment despite the firing of coach Joker Phillips.

"I am committed to Kentucky but am very disappointed that Coach [Joker] Phillips won't be there," Battle said. "I can't believe it. I didn't think they would do it but you kept hearing it may happen. I had about 20 texted messages about it. I googled it and read what happened. Now I am in wait and see mode. I am waiting to see who they hire and go from there."

Battle says he could be on the verge of a scholarship offer from Hawaii. He's also staying in touch with schools like Ohio, Navy, Toledo and Buffalo.

Battle's high school team is 8-0. They had two games rained out and are waiting to see if they play again this week.

"I am playing really well and have really improved," Battle said. "I am more aggressive and my mentality out there has changed. I am playing all over the field. I am in the box and I can cover. I am a hybrid safety, cornerback, linebacker."

Battle, 6-foot-3 and 185-pounds, has 30 tackles, two interceptions, a forced fumble, and two sacks this season.
