At 6'2 1/4 185 Trey has the ideal size coaches are looking for in an outside wideout. Trey runs the 40 very consistently in the mid 4.5 range.
Trey has outstanding ball skills and what should be considered elite hands. Trey has outstanding leaping ability and does a tremendous job of attacking the ball at it's highest point.
Trey is very physical at wideout and does a great job stalk blocking. In fact almost every school that is recruiting him at this point are also considering him at free safety as well due to his physical play at wide receiver.
Last year as a junior Trey played a role at safety where he displayed great toughness. Griffey showed good technique in open field tackling and displayed good ball skills recording a couple of interceptions as well.
Trey is a outstanding athlete with a lot of upside. At this point he is still very raw and is just scratching the surface. In his first spring at Dr Phillips he has already grown leaps and bounds in the short time in the program.
The biggest question surrounding Trey at this point is will he play wideout or safety at the next level. No matter where he ends up playing he will be a factor on either side of the ball. He's very coachable and has the athletic ability on top of that.
Griffey is already closing in on the double digit mark for offers at this point. By signing day in February 2012 he should have an easy twenty offers and will be a huge pickup for the program he chooses.
