SunStateFootball Top 100: 1-5

John Theus

The state of Florida is expected to have over 330 players sign D-1 scholarships on signing day. SunStateFootball provides a Pre-Spring Top 100 to highlight SOME of the top players in the state. Here is a look at players 1-5.

1. John Theus

Area Rank: Jacksonville(1)

School: Jacksonville Bolles

Ht/Wt: 6'6, 290

Position: Offensive Tackle

Offers: Georgia, Florida State, Florida, Alabama, Miami, and many more

Theus is the prototype LT who possesses the total package of size, mobility, and mental toughness. He is not only the top offensive linemen in a very deep year in the state, but also one of the best to come out of the state in years. Theus plays for one of the great coaching staffs in the state at Bolles and still has plenty of upside remaining. He is very polished and plays the game with a real mean streak. His brother, Nathan, signed with Georgia a year ago and they are considered the leader at this time, but plenty of schools are in hot pursuit.

2. Jessamen Dunker

Area Rank: Palm Beach(1)

School: Boynton Beach

Ht/Wt: 6'6, 320

Position: Offensive Tackle

Offers: Committed to Florida

Dunker was a relative unknown four months ago, but his film is simply outstanding, particularly for a prospect who has not played much football. He already has elite size and the former basketball player from Georgia has rare tools for a big fella. Every school that watched him offered him and after a tour of several universities he chose UF. Expected to get better as he gets more reps.

3. Duke Johnson

Area Rank: Dade(1)

School: Miami Norland

Ht/Wt: 5'9, 185

Position: Running Back/Cornerback

Offers: Committed to Miami

On a list heavily tilted towards size, Johnson being no.3 speaks volumes about his game. He has a strong case for being the top player(not prospect) in the state because of his versatility and production. Extremely elusive with speed, he can simply makes impact plays on both sides of the ball. Led team to state title game. He certainly can be a RB, the question is if there is more upside as a DB. Seems to understand the game as well as anyone. Solidly committed to Miami.

4. Eddie Williams

Area Rank: Panhandle(1)

School: Panama City Arnold

Ht/Wt: 6'3, 210

Position: Safety

Offers: Committed to Alabama

Here is the prototype that colleges love at Safety. Big with great speed/range he will deliver a lot of pop vs. the run. Has shown that he can makes plays on the offensive side at QB and WR. Hit the radar as a freshmen at Seminole Showtime where he looked like a rising senior. All of 6'3 and potentially could grow into a LB down the road. Made early commitment to Alabama.

5. Avery Young

Area Rank: Palm Beach(2)

School: Palm Beach Gardens

Ht/Wt: 6'5, 280

Position: Offensive Line

Offers: Florida, FSU, Miami, Alabama, Oklahoma, Georgia

Another top offensive line prospect, Young moves like a DE. He has great length and plays light on his feet. He still has some physical development in gaining weight and strength, but his overall package is elite at this time. Has played his recruitment close to the vest and that will probably continue. Older brother played at NCSU. Recommended Stories
